EU DIRECTIVE AND UK LAW

EU Directive and UK Law.

The Registered Design number 2053070, registered at the UK Patent Office since October 1995 depicting the Eurosymbol of 12 golden stars above the country identifier of GB was created by two individuals David and Nansi Mottram. The design was registered by the officials at the UK Patent Office as it was novel - new - and had not been identified as being in the public domain, trade or government circles for a period of 25 years before the date of application for its registration in 1995.

David and Nansi Mottram introduced their design to UK Transport Department and EU Transport Commission.

Following the registration of this design (plus 7 more in the same series) at the UK Patent Office the Intellectual Property was formally introduced by David and Nansi Mottram by means of a feasibility study  to the UK Department of Transport - in late 1995 early 1996 and subsequently to the EU Transport Commission in Brussells and to the then EU Transport Commissioner - Commissioner Neil Kinnock - who praised the design for its novelty and simplicity.

An EU Directive legalises the use of the registered deign 2053070 in 1998.

The EU Commission issued a Directive - EU Directive 2411 of 1998 - this legalised for the use THROUGHOUT EU MEMBER STATES - the 12 gold stars and the country identifier - for use on all vehicle registration plates throughout the European Union.
